I’ve always been curious about how invisible forces or ideas can become visible. One thing that has recently interested me is mental illness. How can we make people more aware of mental illness? Also, how can we make people more accepting of mental illness — whether it’s their own or somebody else’s illness?
With these thoughts in mind, I decided to translate the feeling of anxiety into a piece of wearable art. I used collage, digital drawing, and paint. This is “Wrapped in my own Anxiety”.
I entered this into the Iowa State University’s Studies in Creativity art show in November 2014, and it was accepted along with 29 other pieces. This piece won a merit award.
