I made an 8-page zine about my grandmas in hopes to spark people’s conversations about their own grandmothers with their families. I handed out this zine, which included a recipe, with cookies made from the recipe. The zine included contact information and a call-to-action to send stories about your own grandma to the zine for future publications.
I used the zine format not only for ease of production and distribution, but because the riot grrl movement and aesthetic seemed appropriate for grannies. I titled the publication “Grannys Rock” — using the plural of the proper noun “Granny” vs. “grannies” because I wanted the publication to be more personal.
Unfortunately, nobody sent any information for future publications. However, I’m planning to produce another batch of this zine with edits and drop it in various locations in St. Paul.
