I’m interested in community and bringing people together through design. I decided that I wanted to make a pop-up craft booth with items for sale in exchange for acts of kindness rather than for money. I designed not only the system for the event, but also made all of the items at the booth.
Participants were encouraged to fill out a token with a kind act — green for an act that they had already completed and red for an act that they promise to fulfill. Handmade items on the table were each worth a different amount of tokens. Participants filled out the tokens and used them like currency to exchange for the handmade goods.
I’m currently investigating the premise of kindness as currency and will have updated works very soon. My hope is that I created a ripple effect of kindness through triggering with one kind act of a gift given at my booth.
