I became increasingly interested in bringing different cultural groups of people together through design. I noticed a disconnect between native Iowans and Latino/a immigrants. I decided to try to bridge the gap in my community through a pop-up taco stand.
I gave away free tacos. The catch? With each taco came a fact about immigration in Iowa, which prompted some interesting conversations.
Unfortunately, the booth was difficult to set up because of the electricity requirement. I abandoned Taqueria Guerita (“Little Blondie’s Tacos” — roughly translated) because of this and because of the potential for negative interactions with the public. I want my work to have a wholly positive impact.
