Corbin was one of the first students I taught in ART GR 275 (graphic design technology). The first assignment in that class was for students to create a photorealistic illustration of an object using Adobe Illustrator’s gradient mesh tool. Corbin chose an object that was more detailed than I had recommended, but the result was outstanding.
Additionally, the final project for ART GR 275 was publication design. I worked directly with Meredith Corporation to obtain content for publication design, and randomly assigned my students one of three types of content (moss, bedroom decor, and tequila). They were given the task of developing three full spreads, a cover, and a table of contents from the given content. In addition, Corbin designed his magazine for a specific demographic. His target auidence was “men in their late 20s to early 30s who worked as professionals and probably shave with a straight razor”.
Finally, I typically share random nuggets of related information and ideas with my students. I shared a technique for manipulating images / text with a scanner or copy machine with Corbin, and it inspired him to create the final four images.
