I gained interest in patchwork in 2009 when I sustained a running injury and needed something to fill the time I was no longer running. What I enjoy most about patchwork is choosing fabrics and organizing different color combinations. I also have an interest in sustainability, so it bothered me to waste scraps of fabric. I began saving bags of scraps and realized I could use them to make smaller projects, like bags and pillows. These bags are my favorite thing to make as they require me to create different 10-inch blocks from scrap fabric. Typically I make a batch of 10-inch blocks, and later make them into bags, as sewing the bag is the least pleasing of this process. I’ve come up with a lot of color combinations I would never have used in my design work or in my patchwork projects created from newly chosen fabric.
