As a graduate student, I have made a point to learn new handcraft techniques, regardless of class requirements. For an assignment that required me create a map based on the intersection of my experience and the existing space, I explored the medium of screen print, and I decided to work on my illustration and hand-lettering skills as well. Initially I sketched 10 maps, and from those 10 maps I chose to research one of them, and created a novel map of my experience of that space. Once I had chosen to explore my memory map of my musical experience in Des Moines, I realized that it started to look like a turntable, with the Principal Building in the middle. The concept took off at this point, and the end result was a screen print shirt with my map on the front, and my legend on the back, which was reminiscent of a concert T-shirt.
