Mark and I had the opportunity to print our own letterpress wedding invitations with Jim from Ackley Publishing. We spent an entire Saturday picking out hot and cold type, mixing ink, and running the presses. This experience was so memorable and fun — and perfect for a graphic designer and engineer couple. We didn’t have a design picked out when we got there and the experience led us to the final invitation design in an unexpected way.
Here are a couple of shots from the process, and a few videos of us working with Jim on his amazing collection of letterpress equipment.
Here are some more shots of our invitations and save the dates.
In addition to the invitations and signage we printed with Ackley, I designed and made the rest of the decor and printed ephemera for the event — everything from menus to programs, to table runners, escort cards, and a custom ring box. My friends and family helped me paint a huge collaborative painting that served as the backdrop for our event. Mark will point out that he made the table number holders and the M&C you see behind the cake.
