I’ve been loving this song (and new album) by The Drums … so take a listen. It’s really upbeat, but the lyrics aren’t. How ironic-slash-hipster of them.

I’m really loving this song by The Tallest Man on Earth.  He’s a Swedish acoustic singer/songwriter.  I found him on Spotify via my friend Steph.  Let me know what you think. I love his style.

Another band I discovered via a coworker who pointed them out on Spotify is The Thievery Corporation. Who, again, I was already digging on The Current.

I’ve been using Spotify a lot lately, but am trying to find a good balance between Spotify and The Current — for a couple of reasons.  One is obvious — I’m a member of The Current and donate a chunk of money every month to keep them up and running.  Two — if I quit listening to the radio, how will I ever find anything new?  I get that the point of Spotify is to see what your friends are listening to and find new things that way, but my musical tastes don’t overlap my friends’ that much.

That being said, I asked my intern last week if he had any band suggestions. And he said Cults.  Which I quickly realized I was already digging on The Current anyway but didn’t know it was this band.  The song Go Outside is on their current rotation.

I know I’ve already featured LCD Soundsystem, but I recently purchased an older album of theirs, “The Sound of Silver” at the suggestion of a friend upon seeing my last post about these guys.

This album is slowly growing on me, though I don’t like it as much as “This is Happening” (their 2010 release). I am in love with this song, “North American Scum”. On repeat.

I made an amazing discovery on Tuesday.

And bear with me, I know I’m probably behind on this, which makes me sad.

YOU CAN MAKE MUSIC WITH NINTENDOS.

Yes. Nintendos.

And I found this out by listening to NPR on the way to work. Which kept me occupied during a traffic-stand-still caused by a burning van — that I unfortunately don’t have any more information or images of.

Anywho, the band is Anamanaguchi. I don’t feel so bad knowing that I already played the Scott Pilgrim game and loved the soundtrack — which they are responsible for creating.

Just so you know, they play other instruments. They apparently take apart old game systems and modify them to play new melodies. And the systems are on stage with them.

Bowie. He’s beautiful, androgynous and one of my favorite artists of all time. If you follow me on twitter, you’ve probably seen me tweet about wanting to have #bowiebabies more than once.

I discovered a song that I’m not as familiar with by Bowie. And I youTubed it and found this awesome video from probably the very early 80s or the late 70s. The song is “Fashion”.

I totally forgot about Primus. Primus is definitely an acquired taste — everybody in the band is super talented and the songs use the bass (Les Claypool) as their melody, which is kind of different than most bands.

This video is one of my favorite music videos ever. They filmed it in slow mo and sped it up because these suits were super heavy. And yes, the song is kind of inappropriate — but that’s how Primus rolls.

So this song isn’t very good. I’m just going to throw that out there. What makes it good is the fact that the entire song aside from the new vocal track is Michael Jackson’s Human Nature.

Okay, so if I was a pop singer, what would the most obvious way to get a hit single be? Sample something from somebody else’s hit single. Namely Michael Jackson. Or maybe Madonna.

Anyway, I’m sure Chris Brown has a following and some talent — he’s obviously a talented dancer as this video shows. It’s basically a giant homage to the King of Pop. He’s apparently a huge fan.

So of course, I’m sharing with you, because I watched the video and pretty much exploded with happiness. It was like MJ reincarnated. But not anywhere near as awesome.
