Geeky (but awesome) Monday Surprise

Monday, May 9th, 2011

I was out of the office a few days last week so I didn’t receive this lovely package from Amy Palanjian (the editor of ReadyMade magazine for those who aren’t familiar) until today.

Amy follows me on Pinterest and noticed that I had pinned this amazing book, “World of Geek Crafts” and promptly messaged me asking if I wanted her copy that was sitting on her desk.

Why, yes. Yes I do!

So she stuck it in snail mail, and I got it TODAY.

Guess what the first thing I’m going to make is? Betcha can’t guess …

It’s a Buffy portrait. Made from beads. Can’t decide if I want to anty up time or money — because this would make a GREAT x-stitch, but I feel that would take up too much time. But it would be awesome.

Also, I didn’t realize this until now, but I was featured on the Geek Craft blog a LONG time ago (2009) — when it first started. My lovely rubiks cube that I made for my then-BF, Kasey, was featured.

A Bit of Schizophrenic Music Taste

Monday, November 15th, 2010

I recently saw this meme on a friend’s Facebook, and though it’s not a new concept, I’ve never done this.

Procedure: go to iTunes. Set to shuffle. Post the first 15 songs that come up in order. NO CHEATING.

HERE is what I came up with — with links to a video or MP3 for each. It’s like 15 of my Sweet Tunes Thursdays in one post. Enjoy!

  1. Home (She & Him)
  2. Speechless (Lady Gaga)
  3. Broken Face (The Pixies)
  4. Live to Tell (Madonna)
  5. B-Movie Scream Queen (Murderdolls)
  6. The Sinister Minister (Bela Fleck and the Flecktones)
  7. Off the Wall (THE KING OF POP — Michael Jackson — you should probably watch this video because it’s a live performance and he was amazing.)
  8. Wendy Clear (blink-182)
  9. Third Eye (Tool)
  10. Planet of the Apes (Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13 — no video/mp3 but the lyrics are HILARIOUS)
  11. Dread and the Fugitive Mind (Megadeth)
  12. Jeremy (Pearl Jam)
  13. Erection (The Faint)
  14. Line by Line (Ms. John Soda)
  15. God Send Death (Slayer)

Hmmm … a little less hard than I expected. Maybe this shows an apparent shift in my music taste that’s happened in the last year or two?

Weiner Free Weekend: Killing Road in Minnesota

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

It’s another weiner-free weeeeeeeeeekend.  I shouldn’t be this excited, but my lil dog is kind of like having a misbehaving 3-year-old.  If you’re reading this, that means I’m in Minnesota and Barnabus is at Steph‘s place for the weekend.

Why, do you ask? Because I’m going to see SLAYER. MEGADETH. AND TESTAMENT.

Yes. Almost the big 4, but not quite.  Good enough for me — good riddance to Metallica anyway.  Dave Mustaine is where it’s at, as you can tell by my fabulous kitchen decor.

Dave Mustaine for President

(a super old pic … but seriously. this guy is badass).

Anyway, I so can’t wait to see Megadeth and Slayer again … and I’m excited about Testament. I’m kind of disappointed that we’ve got nose-bleeds because last time I saw Megadeth I was close enough to touch Dave. On the railing. Man, you MN peeps are wimps. I got more beat up at the Jimmy Eat World show in Iowa than I did at Gigantour that year!

Gigantour 2008

Wow. I’m rambling. Sorry — I get excited about these things then go into douchey metal dude speak.

Anyway, I’m going to have a great time and maybe get some decent photos. Regardless, I’m so going to H&M when I’m in Minnesota … seriously.

Gotta love how I’m going to a thrash show and all I can think about is shopping …

I’m going to leave you with one of my favorite Megadeth songs.  I say one of them because they’re all pretty much amazing. Enjoy!

Not to mention — this one is a gem from ’91 — Dave Ellefson on bass … drool (not because I think he’s hot, but because he’s amazing!) … it’s almost a shame I don’t have the same hair as these guys anymore.

a TigerBeatesque post about Alexi Laiho

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Haha…for those of you who don’t remember Tiger Beat, click here to see the wikipedia article.

Here we goooo!

OMG Alexi Laiho is soooooo dreamy! I’m kind of in love with him. Seriously — like, he is way totally hotter than Ashton or the Jonas Brothers (who by the way are probably like 12 and I have no idea what they look like)!!

Alexi Laiho is the lead singer and guitarist for the Finnish metal band Children of Bodom. Not only does he totally rock on guitar, he’s also extremely hot when he does it! He is definitely the hottest guy in melodic death metal these days!

Here are some gratuitous pictures for you to admire and print out and tape all over your 8th grade English notebooks!

Okay guys, for reals – I do kind of have an über metal crush on him. The cute Finnish accent doesn’t help (listen to She is Beautiful or Bed of Nails covers for reference). Not to mention, there’s really not that many cute guys in my musical genres….

I mean…here are my other choices:

George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher (Cannibal Corpse)

Johann Hegg of Amon Amarth

Johan Hegg

Kerry King of  Slayer

And of course… MY HERO… Dave Mustaine (not that attractive, but a very cool guy)

Also, I may have picked this photo on purpose because he’s making an awesome guitar face.

\m/ metal swap \m/

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

I’m SO excited!  I’m taking part in my first organized craft swap on craftster.org.

AND, it’s a metal swap!  Yay!  There are so many craftsters who are into metal — who knew?  AND good metal, not hair metal or nümetal!  I just got my partner yesterday and we are SO perfectly matched!  She’s into Iron Maiden, Slayer, Children of Bodom, EARLY Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, In Flames and Amon Amarth.  PERFECT.  The only 2 things we’re not matched on is her Maiden and my Dethklok, but otherwise, we’re a great pair.

The other thing is that neither one of us is a typical metal girl. You wouldn’t think I listened to heavy stuff by looking at me and by the way I dress and she’s like that too.  Just a girlie girl who happens to listen to cheesy music is how she put it.  So we’re thinking of doing very non-metal things and adding a metal twist to them — embroidered tea towels, reconned t-shirts with lots of ruffles and lace, no red and black combos… just super girlie stuff.

I’m soooo excited for this!  I’m listening to Maiden right now to get pumped for it.
