early bird …

… gets lots of stuff done!

I got up early today since I had an appointment to take my car in for the 30K service that it needed.

Then Mark and I went to the Ames Farmers Market. We found some fabulous things at the Farmer’s Market — spring greens, granola and some english muffin bread (which Mark promptly turned into homemade egg mcmuffins).  But most of all — Pappardelle Pasta. They have so many different kinds and awesome flavors. I even let Mark get some that wasn’t whole wheat. We got the Sweet Red Onion Linguine and the Tomato Cracked Pepper Pappardelle. We’re planning on doing Linguine with Shrimp and Lemon Oil for dinner tonight with the red onion linguine.

Then the bank to cash in my change from my giant Jack Daniels tin — $30 — mostly pennies.

Then groceries.

Then I baked some EPIC brownies, which gave me an excuse to use my giant spring blossom pyrex cinderella bowls.  I used the recipe my mom used since I was a little kid (which apparently is still popular with Hershey’s). Please note that Paula Deen would definitely approve of the butter usage in these brownies.

And I’m going running. A decent distance. Yet to be determined, but between 9–10 miles. It’s supposed to thunderstorm, but I’m throwing my iPod in a ziplock and going anyway — especially after making those diabetes-inducing brownies. So there, weather.  Hit me with your best shot.

Market Day Recap!

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Hey all!

Yesterday was the first Market Day of the season and there were a lot of changes from last year’s event — all of which I thought were great changes.

First off, the event was in a new venue. This venue had much better lighting, better ventilation and was all in all a better fit for the event.  They also had music playing and an announcer to start and end the event.  The booth sizes were a lot smaller than last year, which allowed more vendors.  This was a problem for some vendors, but I’ve got a tiny setup, so I was okay. I let the neighboring vendors have a bit of my space.

I had a moving sale in an attempt to downsize the amount of dishes that I had to move to my new place.  It went pretty well.  My hottest selling item was the fabric greeting cards. I’m going to be making a bunch more of those for the next go-round on June 26.

All in all, the event was a success, and I met a lot of new people.

My one purchase (well, aside from the mandatory sweet tart frosted cupcake) was a lovely hair pin from Bean and the Sprout. I’ve been drooling over these for a while, so I finally bucked up and bought a piece from her.

Here’s me sporting my new purchase. In the background is my lovely butterflies in wonderland quilt, which I’ve finally decided to keep for myself unless somebody wants to buy it for $300 or more. It’s currently hanging on the wall in my bedroom.

Here’s me with my wares. I strategically placed my moving sale in my suitcase … ;)

A closeup of my dishes. I wasn’t selling the bowl with the flowers on it in the background. I decided to use my extra set of pyrex spring blossom mixing bowls as displays for my camera cases and greeting cards.

And my booth. :)   Most of it is now in the hands of hopefully happy people.

Saturday Night Craft-a-thon

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

It’s been so long since I had a weekend of hermiting and crafting.  The cat’s away so the mouse will … be lame and stay indoors on a Saturday night?

This used to be my typical Saturday night: run, shower, laundry, movies, crafting, sleep.

Lately I’ve been doing things.  Like a lot of things. I went to a concert last night with Shelly (I will blog about this later once she gets pix/video up), I’ve been going out with friends to Welch Ave., Fong’s, The Lift, etc., we had prom last weekend … eeeeep! This is entirely too much stuff for me — it’s been fun — but I need a break!

So, I’m hermiting.

Tonight is going to be a craft-a-thon. I’ve had a request for 2 tea wallets and 2 market bags since posting on facebook that I was going to have a craft-a-thon.  I’ve got a Ziggy Stardust tea cup I want to finish, some potholders, a zip pouch and I have a couple of new hot projects that I’d like to crank out quickly to stash bust my scrap fabric.

Anywho — as I finish things, I’ll be posting pix here of what I accomplish tonight. Let’s hope I do a few more things so I don’t look like I spent the night thinking about crafting and not actually crafting.

1. Two Bags for my niece

My mom requested that I make Emee a couple of bags for some of her toy sets.  These need handles, but I haven’t come across anything that I’d like to use for handles just yet.  I made these bags out of a skirt I had in high school that I never wear anymore.  It’s really cute purple fabric that shifts to blue in the right light and has a metallic silver brocade on the edges.

2. Potholders

I started making a string quilt a while back with a bunch of random scraps, but I wasn’t pleased with what I was getting. So I decided to make the blocks into ugly potholders. The potholders have been lying around for a while awaiting the binding edge, so I’m sewing the binding on tonight.

Here’s what my potholders look like …

WEEEEE I can't believe I finally finished these.

As you can see … I’m pretty excited that I finally finished these.

3.  Lil Zipper Bag

Over the summer I’d made some little zipper bags with some fuschia and gold Heather Ross mendocino fabric that was given to me by my friend Adria.  I love this fabric sooo much, might I add. Definitely one of my all-time favorites. Anyway, for whatever reason I’ve had one little zipper bag sitting around unfinished. So I finished that off tonight as well.

4. Ziggy Stardust Tea Cup

I made Mark a cute tea cup for our 2-month anniversary with the lyrics to our song on it … and I decided I wanted one that’s similar for myself. Yes — I said — FOR MYSELF. I never craft for myself. I wrote out the lyrics to Ziggy on a teacup last week … but decided that it needed to have a bit more pizazz, considering it *is* Bowie. So, I painted it up. I’m not too happy with the results, but maybe it will grow on me after I bake it. I like the one side, but I think if I would have left it a bit simpler it would be nicer … oh well. This can end up on craftastrophe I guess.

Ziggy — good side

Sippy?

Bad side

As you can tell by my face, this is the side I’m not too happy with. I dunno what to do with it just yet … Probably just bake it and hide it away in my apartment. :P

I think that’s all I’m going to get to tonight, but I’m going to continue tomorrow and get 4-6 tea wallets done, possibly some dis-cards (Denyse Schmidt style) and maybe another craft for myself — heating pad cover.
