Metric Butt-ton of Quilt Blocks!

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

I took today off since I had to take my mancandy to the airport at an obscenely early time and wanted to sleep/clean/catch up on crafting the rest of the day.

Needless to say, I didn’t get a whole lot of cleaning done (I did put the dishes away!), but I got a little sleeping and a LOT of crafting done.  I finished off both sets of wonky log cabin blocks I’ve been working in — one with my repro fabrics, and the other with Wonderland and Amy Butler fabrics that I’ve been hoarding.  I have 17 of the repro block and 24 of the Amy Butler/Wonderland blocks.  I’m going to make a queen-sized quilt with the AB/W blocks, but not sure what I’m going to do with the repro blocks.

Here are some of the more fun blocks from the repro log cabin set (8″x8″).

Eventually I’ll make these into quilts, but until then, they’re just pretty patchwork pieces.

I’m famous…again

Not really, but I always feel special when something I do ends up on somebody else’s blog. :)

A while back I blogged about a block I sent in to the Jolly Jabber Block Lottery.  I sent it in a while back. Today I was catching up on all my blogs in Google Reader after the weekend in Chicago (which I’ll blog about later once I get photos from my girlies).  I got to FatQuarterShop.com‘s Jolly Jabber Blog and saw my name was mentioned! They were updating on the block lottery and picked a few blocks that had been sent in so far.  I’m not sure if they only had a few to choose from so mine was chosen or if they just really liked it…either way, I was kind of excited!

(here’s the block for reference)

Okay…so I found the group on flickr. They don’t have a lot just yet, but mine is clearly one of the cooler ones. ;)

Check out the original blog post on FatQuarterShop.

Did I mention I sent in my first official block?  I’ve only made quilt tops out of non-block patterns before. I’m currently working on a quilt for my sister with this block pattern (different fabrics though).

X string quilt block for Jolly Jabber Quilt Block Lottery

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

I’ve been wanting to try my hand at paper piecing for a while (as I mentioned earlier today), so tonight, I did.

Here’s an X string block. This block is made from leftovers from a honey bun of Hello Betty from my friend Adria (which, by the way, I’m so sick of this fabric! I made a quilt top, a few pillows and now this block from it!).  I’m going to send it in for FatQuarterShop’s Jolly Jabber Quilt Block Lottery. Just have to get to the post office at some point to mail it.

X String Block in Hello Betty

Anyway… there was one place that didn’t turn out so hot. I’d also like to try this a few more times as practice before I make a real quilt…so maybe I’ll make little zipper bags from the resulting blocks instead. I need to get my edges to line up a lot better.
