Apron in Action!

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Last week I posted about the apron I made Emee for Christmas.

Here is the apron in action. Mom and Em were making French toast and Emee asked to wear her new apron.

So cute! I’m glad she liked it. She was so blinded by Legos (which, for the record, weren’t blind after she was done with them — click the link and you’ll understand) and all the other cool stuff she got that she barely noticed the apron that she had wanted. Looks like she’s got a year or more left to wear it since I made it intentionally a bit big.

I bet that was some good french toast!

FO Friday: Reversible Toddler Apron

Friday, December 23rd, 2011

My mom requested that I make an apron for my niece. I found this really basic tutorial and adjusted it to make it reversible and to fit my niece.

I like how it turned out, especially now that I walked away from it for a while. There are a few mistakes, but she’s 3, so she won’t notice.

I especially love the fabric that I used for the top part. It’s perfect for an apron! I’m glad she’s little so I could stash a scrap of the fat quarter back for later.

3 years

Friday, October 14th, 2011

Three years ago my beautiful and bossy* niece, Emee, was born. Man how time flies. Now she’s art directing my coloring and has hair halfway down to her butt.

*side note … I don’t know where she gets these things …

My niece at her first gig as a flower girl.

So freaking adorable.

The Education of Barnabus Stinson

Sunday, April 17th, 2011

My mom posted a bunch of pictures of my niece on Facebook today, and as usual, they were frighteningly cute.  I had to share this one with you — it’s Emee reading to my dog, Barney.  He intently listened apparently for quite a while.

I don’t think I’m going to get my dog back. Mom said that Emee said, “Calee just visit. Barney stay here.”

Tut-tut-Tuesday

I wanted to share this adorable hat pattern with you. It’s for a swirl hat that can be made in almost any size. I made the toddler size for my niece.  It took me a little over an hour to knit and it’s super cute!

I think it’s safe to say she likes it.

Holiday Crafts: Tutu for my Niece

Saturday, December 11th, 2010

Don’t worry — she’s 2. She’s not going to read my blog. If she does, then I’m more than proud of her.

I had cut up my prom dress from my senior year of high school a couple months back for my birthday party, but had failed pretty miserably. So I had a TON of tulle lying around. And what could I do with tulle? Make my niece into a little fairy princess for Christmas.

This was my original dress, BTW. I don’t have a photo of the monstrosity that it turned into, unfortunately (well fortunately for me).

I found a great tutorial on instructables and went to work. Here’s what I came up with. I think I need to put together a few more things and give her the whole fairy princess package.

Sweet Tunes Thursday: Les Savy Fav

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

First of all, happy birthday to my fabulously amazing niece who turns TWO today!

As you can see, my mom likes to put her in colorful outfits. She is so damn cute (takes after her aunt, yo).

Anywho, today’s musical selection is Les Savy Fav —  another case of something awesome not catching on with me until a lot lot lot later.

My friend, Kasey, gave me a copy of a Les Savy Fav CD a LONG time ago.  At least 6 months ago. However, I didn’t bother listening to it because it had a weird name, and a lot of the stuff he listens to is kind of off-kilter. And the name made them sound more death-metally than anything and I wasn’t in the mood for metal at the time.

But, I’ve been digging this song, “Let’s Get Out of Here” on MPR’s The Current for a LONG time. AND I just figured out that it’s actually LES SAVY FAV — who aren’t, in fact, a death metal band, but an awesome art rock band out of NYC.

Um, also — check out their website. The video on it is awesome.

So for your listening pleasure today, here is “Let’s Get Out of Here” (the video is just their GLORIOUS album cover):

SIDE NOTE: I got the new Belle and Sebastian CD on Tuesday and haven’t had a listen. I will give you an update and a review when I get a chance!

Le Bebe Quilt

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

I made this quilt out of two tops I had lying around for my niece for Christmas. I had planned a cuter quilt, but I didn’t have the money to get it professionally quilted, so I put two of my tops together and qulited this blanket with wavy stitching. The stitching is pink on one side and yellow on the other.

AND surprisingly, she loved it. She’s one.  I figured she wouldn’t care, but she picked out all the patterns and she wrapped her dolly up in it. Super cute!

Here are some photos and of course, action shots!
