Sweet Tunes Thursday: Florence and the Machine

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Reading my friend Steph‘s blog, I’ve been inspired.  She recently posted about one of her friends sharing music with her via e-mail — one new track per week on Tuesday.

I thought about uploading a track to my webspace every week on Thursday and sharing the link with y’all so you could download, but I figured I would get in trouble with the powers that be if I did that.

So, instead, I’ll be sharing one tune with you per week via streaming online over YouTube or another source.  If you really like it, let me know, and I can probably get it to you. :)

Today’s tune is Dog Days are Over by Florence and the Machine. This is one of the many songs I’ve discovered on MPR’s The Current.

MPR: The Current

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

I don’t know why I haven’t blogged about this before.

My favorite radio station in the entire world is MPR: The Current (MPR=Minnesota Public Radio).  Mark introduced me to it a while back, but until recently I didn’t realize that I could listen to the online stream. Since I realized I could do that, it’s all I listen to at work.

What prompted this post is that they played my 3 songs yesterday. They do a thing where listeners can pick 3 songs — no theme required — and they pick a listener and play their songs at noon every day.  My day was today.  I picked 3 songs that I discovered on The Current: Kissing the Lipless by The Shins, Dog Days are Over by Florence and the Machine and Hot Summer by Minnesota native, Prince.

Anyway, just thought I would share. I LOVE this station and wish there was a way that I could listen to it in the car.  I really wish we had something like this in Des Moines, but I’m still hoping to end up in the twin cities, so maybe it will become my hometown radio station someday.
