Happy St. Cat-rick’s day!

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

I wasn’t planning on doing a holiday-themed post. I’m not Irish in any way shape or form. And I’m not Catholic either. And I really don’t drink. For me this holiday is usually just an excuse to wear a LOT of green.

Anywho, my friend Kelly posted this fabulous picture of her kitteh.

So Happy St. Cat-rick’s day!

Design Bits: Wedding Invites

Saturday, March 12th, 2011

I’ve been really busy this month creating some fabulous invites and Save the Dates for my friends and friends of friends. A couple were pretty well-designed when I got my hands on them and I just did some tweaks and print prep. A few of them were completely from scratch.

Oh yeah … AND I am moving this month too. Talk about a BUSY schedule.

Anywho, all of the invites and save the dates turned out beautiful.

Here are a couple that I just had to share. Names have been changed to protect privacy. Also, apparently everybody loves turquoise this year!

Doing the Tiiiiime Warp: Middle School Edition

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

Me vogue-ing. Summer between 8th and 9th grade.

This was right before my friend Nikki’s and my infamous brilliant bike tour from one po-dunk Eastern Iowa town to another. The 10-mile trek took us longer than anticipated because we took a wrong turn and ended up going 16 miles instead. I also rode most of the way with one contact and our fuel for the day was Mountain Dew. Needless to say we didn’t cycle home that day. We hitched a ride with my grandpa back home.

And, in case it’s not apparent in the photo, I was wearing my swimsuit because we wanted to be able to take off our shirts and somehow in our 8th grade mentality a sports bra was not as appropriate as a swimsuit. Oh, and puh-lease look at those bitchin’ lime green nike shoes. Those were ALL the rage that year for track.

Well … isn’t that special?

(things most likely to have been heard on that bike trip!)

shopping today!

Saturday, December 4th, 2010

I’m going bridesmaid dress shopping with two of my bestest girlfriends today. We’re trying to find a dress to fit 3 completely different body-types … so we’ll see how that goes. I’m going to try to stand back and let the other girls pick since it’s been pointed out that I can look good in a potato sack.

I will let you know the outcome. Also, the color is BLACK. So that should make it a bit easier. :)

BUT it is super windy and snowy out. So that could make things interesting.

Philosophical Blog Post or Something.

Sunday, November 28th, 2010

My friend Kelly recently asked a question on her blog —do you agree with the following?

Love is not an emotion, it is a decision.
- @erinscreen (via twitter)

My answer? I think it’s both.

Love starts out as an emotion and turns into a decision.  You’re initially attracted to somebody and there’s a whole myriad of emotions  tied to that, but somewhere along the lines, if you want to keep that person around, you’ve got to make a decision whether to continue loving that person.

If a relationship is going to work, there has to be a good mixture of both emotion and decision.

The last relationship I was in was all decision. We’d decided to stay together for EVER and clearly there was hardly any emotion left in the end but we’d vowed to stick with it, so we did. Until we both realized we were both miserable together and it was silly to stick together and split. Side note, he’s still one of the best friends I could ever ask for. And yes, I’m publicly thanking him for that because he goes above and beyond the call of duty of our friendship most of the time.

Love has to have a good mixture of emotion and decision because if it’s all emotion, emotion is fleeting. If you’re with somebody who’s with you based on just the emotions he’s feeling … well then, POOF. When those emotions calm down, he’s out of there.

That was my philosophical answer to that question. Take it or leave it.  Coming from a long-term relationship junkie, I think my authority on this is pretty solid.

Humpday Blog Love — Featured on SewZinski, where flossy meets saucy

My friend, sewzinski, who makes AMAZING stuff just gave me a shoutout on her blog.

FO Friday: Subversive Cross Stitch

Friday, November 5th, 2010

This is definitely an F-O Friday. F standing for a very naughty word that for the sake of my bloggity-readers and my facebook friends, I will edit out. :)

My friend Lora (who doesn’t have a blog that I know about so I can’t link here) recently went through a very traumatic time. Her mother passed away after battling with cancer for several years — the most recent battle was (obviously) the hardest.

I wanted her to know that I was thinking about her. So I made her a lovely cross stitch in the style of subversive cross stitch. Warning: link to their website is NSFW (or small children).

Anyway, here is an edited-for-blogland version of what I made her. It’s her birthday tomorrow too!

Happy Halloween!

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

I don’t have a photo of my Halloween costume just yet, but let me just say it’s pretty awesome.

I spent most of my time in my costume at Market Day yesterday.  I think the costume helped my salesmanship. :)

Here’s a few pix from yesterday’s sale … it was a great time and sadly, the last one for me this year. I will be at Craft Saturday next weekend though.

My booth in all its glory … :) Check out all the wallets!

More of my lovelies — it never occurred to me before to have a SIGN describing what my dishes are. I think that helped sales. People saw that they weren’t just plain dishes.

A twoface mask by DaniAWESOME, who’s also pictured below as Flo, the Progressive lady. I stood by her all day and not once did she try to sell me insurance.

Fabulous day! Sad it’s the last one of the season for me, but there is next year! Be sure to go to the Black Friday sale in November at the Pappajohn building in downtown Des Moines.

My Goodness My Guinness Cupcakes

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

OM nom nom nom nom!

What could be better than combining chocolate and beer? Frosting it. With cream cheese frosting. Oh, and putting it in a portable and cute cupcake form.

Last Sunday was my b-day and my friend Danielle and I made Guinness cupcakes for our friends to enjoy at my little gathering.

I used this recipe for the cake and this recipe for the frosting. These were super super naughty, but soooooo good!

Here is my lovely cupcake display — of course, I frosted them hot pink. Would you expect any less? And Naked Michael Jackson had to come to the party too. It’s not a party without naked michael jackson.

26

Saturday, October 16th, 2010

So I turned 26. Last Sunday. I’m a little late on this post, but I’m a little partied out. Not to mention I’ve had a ridiculously busy week at work! We moved from our old office to a brand new space that was built out just for us. :)

Anyway, 26-year-old festivities began back in September with my friend Kelly‘s birthday on the 23rd.  I like to make it a 2-week event (and I’m sure she does too) with fun birthday activities and fall times.

For Kelly‘s b-day, we went to Fong’s Pizza in Des Moines.  It is amazing. Chinese food? Check. Pizza? Check.  Chinese Food as pizza? What? Yes. Check.

They also have these shots that are so hardcore that they require helmets. They’re so nice at Fong’s that they even provide them for you!

Kelly and me with our helmets

Most amazing photo ever — it so describes our girl group in a snapshot: Steph‘s being all “peace out”, I’m being all badass hardcore metal, Kelly‘s smiling like she has no idea this is out of the ordinary and Maria looks very afriad.

For a full recap of those festivities, check out Kelly’s post. I just realized I left out a super juicy detail from the evening, but you’ll have to check her blog out for that. Plus, she writes better than me anyway. :)

For MY birthday festivities, I had a semi-formal gathering in which we went to dinner, went for drinks and ended up at my place for dessert, drinks and games. Fun times! We played a 3-hour game of Apples to Apples and ended up going through the ENTIRE box of cards!

Mark and me all dressed up

My friend and former roommate, Danielle, and me all pretty and such — I’m so glad she came down — she drove 3 hours to make it!

My friend Molleh and me. Well, it’s Molly, but I prefer to call her Molleh. :)
