A Bit of Schizophrenic Music Taste

Monday, November 15th, 2010

I recently saw this meme on a friend’s Facebook, and though it’s not a new concept, I’ve never done this.

Procedure: go to iTunes. Set to shuffle. Post the first 15 songs that come up in order. NO CHEATING.

HERE is what I came up with — with links to a video or MP3 for each. It’s like 15 of my Sweet Tunes Thursdays in one post. Enjoy!

  1. Home (She & Him)
  2. Speechless (Lady Gaga)
  3. Broken Face (The Pixies)
  4. Live to Tell (Madonna)
  5. B-Movie Scream Queen (Murderdolls)
  6. The Sinister Minister (Bela Fleck and the Flecktones)
  7. Off the Wall (THE KING OF POP — Michael Jackson — you should probably watch this video because it’s a live performance and he was amazing.)
  8. Wendy Clear (blink-182)
  9. Third Eye (Tool)
  10. Planet of the Apes (Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13 — no video/mp3 but the lyrics are HILARIOUS)
  11. Dread and the Fugitive Mind (Megadeth)
  12. Jeremy (Pearl Jam)
  13. Erection (The Faint)
  14. Line by Line (Ms. John Soda)
  15. God Send Death (Slayer)

Hmmm … a little less hard than I expected. Maybe this shows an apparent shift in my music taste that’s happened in the last year or two?

rockin’ august!

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

WOW this august has proven to be a rockin’ one. Megadeth/Slayer/Testament last Saturday and on Monday, Aug. 30th, I’m going to FINALLY get to see the Murderdolls — one of my absolute favorite bands ever. This is beyond exciting because I didn’t think I’d EVER get the chance to see the ‘dolls. They released an album in 2002 (way back when I graduated from high school!) and have been put on the back burner since 2004 when they quit touring as Joey Jordison (the guitarist) is the drummer for Slipknot and they were kind of a big deal then.

Side note: I just blogged about FDQ last Thursday, and that’s a related band.

I did get a chance to see Wednesday 13, the frontman for the Murderdolls, back in 2005 at a tiny lil bar in Cedar Falls. I was about a foot away from him the whole time — he played stuff from his new album and some Frankenstein Drag Queens songs.  He even shot me with his fake plastic gun (guys, that was kind of amazing).

Anyway … it was awesome seeing him, but it wasn’t QUITE as awesome as it would be to see the Murderdolls live.

WELL, my dream has finally come true.

The band reunited this year — at least frontman Wednesday 13 and Joey Jordison — and they’ve put together a new album with some new members. They’ve scheduled a tour, but it starts overseas and ends nowhere near here. I’m pretty sure they’re on Ozzfest, which isn’t something I’m interested in.

I was on twitter yesterday, and one of my friends re-tweeted something about a Des Moines show on Monday from the Murderdolls twitter account.  I managed to snag tickets to what I’m guessing will be a sold-out show. So, on Monday, I’m going to be rocking out at the House of Bricks with the Murderdolls … and I can barely contain my excitement!

eeeeeek! Seriously. I’m like a 12-year-old-girl going to a Miley Cyrus concert.

Sweet Tunes Thursday: Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Here’s where I depart from the cutsie and sweet and give you a taste of some of the good stuff.

Frankenstein. Drag. Queens. FDQ.

A little-known band that sparked the creation of The Murderdolls (who, BTW is coming out with a new album next month). Horror punk. All good clean fun — lyrics are ridiculous — songs like “Dawn of the Dead”, “Kill Miss America” and my favorite … “RAMBO.”

Wednesday 13 was the frontman of this band and I saw him live 5 years ago or so at a little bar in Cedar Falls. There were about 15 people there so it was a pretty intimate show. He shot me with his big fake plastic gun during “Slit my Wrist”.

Wow this all sounds pretty morbid, but I promise you, if you like punk and/or campy horror flicks, these guys are for you.

Anywho — here are some live gems. Not good quality, but I present to you some of my favorite songs.

Also, for those of you playing the home game — please note … these are pretty explicit. Also, they’re in drag (in case you didn’t catch that in the band name).
