FO Friday: Yellow Dinnerware Set

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Fiiirst of all, I’d like to say happy 25th birthday to my friend, Steph:) If you have a chance, head over to her blog and leave her some love. Or hit her up on twitter.

I finally finished my yellow dinnerware set. I’ve had it since my friend Molly picked it up for me in May.  The yellow fake-estaware dish set.  There were a LOT of pieces to work with. But, I made a 19-piece set and lots of other random items out of it.

Yayy! Another one I can mark off my list:)

And in other exciting news, I have a project to add to my WIP list … oops. :)

I received my sketchbook yesterday for The Sketchbook Project 2011. My theme is “It’ll be fun, I swear”. I think I’ll start with talking about how I thought this project will be fun …I’ll keep you updated on my progress.

last week’s craftsplosion

Here’s what I came up with last week during my last-minute-pull-stuff-together-for-Market-Day freakout:

birdies and coffee on corningware (see, I need new designs!) I have 6 of these.  exciting.

teatime with gram turquoise mug — “one lump or two?”

birdies and coffee on white teacup/saucer — I sold this to my boss…and she gave it to her daughter who loves it!

again, with the birdies. I love the fluted edges on this plate though. I want a whole set!

*whew*

That’s it for a while.  I received a water pitcher that I’ll do up…and I’m thinking of doing napkin rings and sewing matching napkins to go with them as well.  I want to start doing more sets rather than just random pieces.

Thanks for looking!

I’m preparing for my first ever craft show next weekend and I’m upcycling a buttload of vintage ceramics…fiestaware…pyrex…cornin gware, etc.

Instead of sectioning them out, I decided to dump them all in one post. I hope you don’t mind. I’ll probably have another big post like this next week as well.  I’ve got about 15-20 more pieces to do up between now and then.

I just bought a buttload of dishware.

I just had a post about how I started crafting on ceramics. WELL… I made the mistake of going to an antique store to see about getting some cheap dishes to revamp and I discovered… FIESTAWARE!

love it.

love it.

Apparently people collect it and if it’s not beat up it goes for about $40 a plate (literally). The guy who checked out at the antique store before me spent $150 on two tumblers the size of double-shot glasses.

Either way…it’s perfect for what I want to do.  :)   I ended up buying 3 plates, 2 cups & saucers and 4 bowls. Weeeee that will be fun.  My purchases, I’m happy to say, didn’t add up to even a third of what that guy paid (whew!). I figure fiestaware collectors aren’t going to want to buy it with my sketchies all over it..so might as well go for the stuff that’s deemed “not good enough” to warrant a $50 price tag. Honestly… I don’t see the difference. I think there was a piece I have that has a little scratch from probably a fork on it, but really, I’m crafting with it so I can cover that (kind of like covering a tattoo!).

I’ve also been ebaying lately and picked up a few other dishes that I plan to craft and throw up on Etsy.

I’ve also FINALLY found my set of pyrex dishes. I found some for cheap on ebay and got the final bowl to complete my nesting bowl collection..well I bought all 4 I guess…so I’ll have multiple of 3 of them, but oh well. I use them A LOT.  Then I can get rid of my plastic mixing bowls.

I was missing the biggest bowl I do believe. Nots ure if my current bowls are the same or opposite (ie: smallest is green with white flowers instead...and I think that's right, so really, I'll have 7 different bowls YAY!)

Anyway, that is all for now. I’m excited to get started with this!

ALSO… if one of my photographically-inclined friends would like to help me out with photographing my creations to put on Etsy… I would be much abliged (and  you’ll get a fantastic creation in exchange for your services).  I have the skills…but I’m too lazy and I don’t have a good place to setup the photos OR lighting.
