Tu-tu-tu-Tuesday: Glitter Nails

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

Ke$ha would have been proud of these nails.

I did this over New Year’s after seeing a tutorial on Pinterest.

You can use any color for a base, I chose a glitter color by OPI that coordinated with the glitter I was planning on putting on the tips. The trick is that the glitter should be different sizes in order to get the cool effect.

Anyway, this is a LOT of fun, and you should try it. If you do, send me your pix and I’ll do a roundup of glitter nails.

Tu-tu-tu-Tuesday: Asymmetrical Snap Scarf

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

I’ve been asked by a few people to provide a tutorial for this lovely scarf I made as a commission by Mark for his mom for Christmas. Which, by the way, I might have to make a few more of because they are really cute. You can snap all 3 snaps, leave some open, mismatch snaps … so many combos and ways to wrap!

Also, I severely need to take better photos. I’ll take photos with me and a cute outfit for the next one I make. I wanted to have pictures of this so I could remember how I did this next time I did it. But now I have a tutorial put together for you all.

Here’s a PDF tutorial. Enjoy!

… Got Jesus on my necklace-ace-ace

Got that glitter on my eyes

Stockings ripped all up the side

Looking sick and sexyfied

So let’s go, oh, oh, let’s go

I don’t have time to pull together a full recap just yet … but here is a taste.  The night also included such debauchery as table-dancing and bull-riding.

Tu-tu-tu-Tuesday: Knitted Lace Bolero

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

It’s almost fall, which means it’s time to add some slightly warmer things to my wardrobe.  I absolutely adore this pattern by Kelly Maher of 10 Feet High.  It knits up super easy — enough to make them in multiple colors.  And it’s adaptable based on your size instead of coming in 3-4 predetermined sizes.

Newbie knitter? Never fear.  It’s actually a pretty easy pattern. This project was one of my first FO projects when I started knitting.  It’s basically a large rectangle that’s sewn together at the end.

Did I mention that I make onesies?  I think I did a couple of other times.  I do, but I don’t sell them.  Just for gifts.

Check this cutie out! This is my friend Dani‘s niece.

She is TOO cute!  So cute, that I used the last of my wonderland fabric for her tie in the 2nd pic. :)

hairology 101

Wow.

I’m surprised I still have hair after what it’s been through this year. Whew! I didn’t realize just how much my hair has changed until a passerby at work said “oh you got your haircut … again.”

So those of you who’ve met me this past year have no idea, but my hair was pretty much the same from 8th grade until January 2009. I chopped it off then.

I’ll save you the painful explanations and descriptions and regale you with photos. Enjoy. Most are courtesy of my daily mugshot … so they’re not the best quality.

September 2009 — the infamous break-up dye job. Courtesy of Feria. I don’t recommend it. Get it professionally done unless you want it to look like you used shoe polish.

October 2009 — I evened out my uneven cut … and dyed it darker using another box of shoe polish, er, I mean, Feria.

weekend korn t-shirt recon

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

I’ve had this Korn t-shirt for a long time now, and I think it may have been a b-day present from somebody about 5 years ago. I used to wear it all the time, but I’ve grown out of nümetal and have been trying to recon my nümetal shirts into something cute so I’d be more likely to wear them.

I cut the bottom off the shirt, added a blue jersey knit panel to the bottom of it and sewed it to the top. I did a contrasting blue zigzag stitch for the entire shirt and added a zipper on the side since I had a matching zipper lying around.

(bad lighting…bad hair day.. pretty much no makeup… did I mention I’m not a photographer?)

Here’s the front (I cut my head off because it was just sad)

Back — I had thought about doing the blue all the way around, but I liked the way it looked with a plain black back better.

Side (zipper detal) GOOD LORD I’m pasty!

Here’s the original shirt.  I wore this the day I met Kasey for the first time! (I’m pretty sure this was the same day).  I tried out for Assault Company that day and I dressed “hardcore” for the occasion. Clearly, hardcore=pigtails and a sequin cuff.

I’m planning to post this baby on Etsy soon.  I’m planning a photoshoot sometime in July with my friend (aka ex-boyfriend) Matthew, even though Kasey’s not fond of the idea (Kasey doesn’t dislike Matthew because he’s my ex-bf…Kasey just thinks he’s a huge tool).  However… Matthew has some pretty awesome fashion photogs and some pretty cool portraits…. so in the end, that wins out over pissing off Kasey. Plus, I’ve always wanted to model, but my height and hip size have kept me out of the running… I do have the chest for it though! haha. AND he’ll do it for free aside from developing film (if he uses a film camera), which is kind of awesome.  So… win win situation for me and him both (as long as I look decent in the pictures!).

Baby’s First Tattoo…

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

I finished knitting a sweater out of the Stitch-n-Bitch Nation book called “Baby’s First Tattoo”.

It’s for my neice, Emee, and I made the 6 month size. I need to sew the snaps on it yet, but here are some pictures of the finished piece.

Also, I’m going to make another one and add an inch or an inch and a half in the back b/c it pretty much fits me and it would make a cute crop sweater (maybe with a different “tattoo”)

Here are some pix. Enjoy.

NEW GLASSES!

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

I’m so excited I just had to blog about this.

Went to the eye dr today for the first time since 2006.  Shockingly my eyes have gotten better.  I was surprised to hear that because they’ve consistently been getting worse since 4th grade (especially the left eye w/ astigmatism that is now apparently gone).

In my efforts to use my flex dollars before the end of the fiscal  year (which is May at Drake), I bought a fancy new pair of glasses by Coach. I don’t really NEED a new pair…but I kind of wanted a new pair.  Normally I’d just buy the el-cheapo kinda cool pair, but I figured, hell, if I don’t spend my flex dollars, I’m just going to lose them… so I splurged.  I’ll have to pay for my prescriptions until May, but that’s only $10 per prescription, so who really cares (not me!).

Here are my glasses. I’m excited. I can’t wait to get them in 2 weeks.

omg a brand name. a DESIGNER brand name (not that I really care about that, these were just kickass cool)

I restrained myself from getting them in pink. Pink is definitely my style, but I thought the sand color would be more practical and 'adult' of me to purchase.

so now I play the waiting game.

Also, I need to check my flex balance and I can’t figure out  how to do that. I  know I have enough to cover these cool specs, but it would only let me ring $100 through. I wonder if there’s a daily limit or something?  Who knows.  As long as I can pay the rest when I pick them up I’m good to go!

New Hair

Monday, December 29th, 2008

I haven’t really gotten new hair since like… 7th grade. Seriously. The most adventurous thing I’ve done to my hair is grow my bangs out, cut more bangs and grow them out again.  I’ve colored it a bunch of funky colors (including pink and green), but never really cut it any differently.  Same cut, different lengths.

In June I tried to do something new and I got an asymmetrical cut…but I was too chicken to make the sides too much different in length, so you couldn’t really tell that I had that cut.

This time I was going to do the same thing but really go for it.  Well… I ended up doing something else altogether.

I like it, but I don’t know if I’ll like it in a month when I need a  cut again. :/  I don’t want to find a hair person in DSM. I like my hair girl (who I’ve been friends with since probably 4th grade!). :)
