Tu-tu-tu-Tuesday: Knitted Lace Bolero

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

It’s almost fall, which means it’s time to add some slightly warmer things to my wardrobe.  I absolutely adore this pattern by Kelly Maher of 10 Feet High.  It knits up super easy — enough to make them in multiple colors.  And it’s adaptable based on your size instead of coming in 3-4 predetermined sizes.

Newbie knitter? Never fear.  It’s actually a pretty easy pattern. This project was one of my first FO projects when I started knitting.  It’s basically a large rectangle that’s sewn together at the end.

Everything is fair game this month.

august

Both my stores, chimes design and toDIYfor, are having a 20% off special this month.  To participate, convo me on etsy with the item you’d like to apply the sale to and I’ll adjust the price and reserve it for you.

An extra 5% off if you blog or tweet about my sale and include the link to your blog post/tweet in your convo.

Easy peasy.

As per usual, I’m offering free shipping to Des Moines and Ames as long as we can arrange a drop off/pick up.

appliqued onsies!

FINALLY I get to blog about this!

I had a baby shower for my friend Lindsay today and I made her little man a few onsies and a couple for my niece. I couldn’t blog about it until now because I was afraid she might see.  I tweeted about it a while back because I figured she isn’t on twitter, so she wouldn’t see. ;)

Without further ado, here are my onsies!

I’ve had a few requests for me to post a listing for these on my etsy store, but I had to hand stitch these and for now, it’s not really an option for me since I don’t have that kind of time (or won’t shortly since my co-worker will be leaving soon so I may have more to do at work).

I might list the ones with the ties. Those I can machine stitch – but my machine is broken right now, so it doesn’t really even matter! I’ll have to wait to see when I get a new machine. Maybe the new machine will work better and do tighter curves so I may be able to machine stitch the whole thing.

introducing toDIYfor on etsy

I decided that my “hardcore” attire/accessories should live on its own in a new shop on etsy.  I think I’m going to be making more “hardcore” stuff…and that style didn’t really go with my dishes that I have on my original store

My new store is called toDIYfor.  I had that name figured out a LONG time ago when I started making reconned t-shirts. My mom had suggested I come up with a label (that was probably 7 years ago now) but I quilt making stuff shortly thereafter.  Anyway, nobody on etsy had that name, and rather than sit and ponder a new one, I just decided to go for this one. The new label/logo is kind of more sophisticated than the original one…or maybe not? I don’t know. I didn’t want to use a cheesetastic font, but I thought it was kind of fitting.

Here’s the original label I created like 7 years ago…before I had any graphic design knowledge/skills (not that the new label/logo is anything groundbreaking or even good…but still).

Here’s the etsy banner for the new store (shrunk down to fit here):

I kept the sans serif font (DIN) from my chimesdesign logo/branding and pulled in the same fuschia color to hopefully tie the 2 together.

What do you guys think?  Is there anything in my original store that you think could fit better in the “hardcore” store?
