discover Google Reader and leap into the 21st century

Like most of you, I follow a lot of blogs.  However, unlike an alarming number of you, I use a reader to pull all the blog feeds into one neat little package so I’m not spending tedious hours a day going to every single different site/blog that I follow. I use Google Reader.  (if you click on the link, it will take you to a quick overview of how to use it — it’s really easy — I promise!  You don’t have to be technologically savvy to use it…you just need to know the addresses of the blogs you want to follow!

Awesome things about using a reader (that’s right, you don’t HAVE to use google reader, but it’s my favorite!):

  1. all your blogs are in one neat place
  2. it shows you when blogs have new entries (no more time wasted going to a blog to find there hasn’t been any updates!)
  3. you can organize your blogs into different categories (I have news, food, design, friends, etc)
  4. you can add more blogs than you think you’d ever have time to follow…and follow them easily with just a few minutes a day!
  5. if you want to read the full entry and/or go to the blog, just click on the title  (that’s right, some people don’t feed their entire entries, which is fine — most blogs do).

I’ve come up with a mini-tut if you guys want that… it’s here. Not super fancy, and I’m sure the tour will provide you with more information.

So since I’m assuming you’re setting it up right now… here’s a list of blogs that are totally awesome that you should follow:

Etsy Stalker

A blog devoted to cute findings on Etsy. They “stalk” them out and blog about them… so you don’t have to do all the work yourself. ;)

Sew Mama Sew

An awesome blog about… you guessed it… sewing!  She’s got a lot of giveaways and helpful information, which is why I follow her.

Bittbox

If you’re a designer and not following this one, you should probably hit yourself over the head. All sorts of freebie vectors, fonts, brushes and how-tos.

design*sponge

If you like to look at pretty things and well-designed things… this blog is a must-follow! There’s DIY tutorials and before and after photos.

Niki’s Design’o'blog

If you’re a web designer, you should probably follow this blog. Lots and lots of tutorials, answered questions and how-tos.

Moda Bake Shop

If you love fabric or are thinking of beginning sewing, this blog is fabulous. They give super simple step-by-step instructions on how to make a BUNCH of different projects (not just quilts!). Granted, they’re trying to get you to buy their fabric, but you don’t HAVE to (I do! I’m a fabricaholic though).

Cupcakes Take the Cake

This blog is all about CUPCAKES! Cupcake apparel, tattoos, art, ephemera, and of course, the real deal. I love it. WARNING: not a good idea to read when you’re waiting for your lunch break!

Cakewrecks

Ahh… cake wrecks. Contrary to the previous blog, this one isn’t usually about pretty cakes. It’s usually about ugly cakes or cakes with horribly mis-spelled words and grammar errors (PS: Steph, Kelly — mis-spelled? one word or two?)

Bakerella

This is the mother of ALL baking blogs. If you don’t follow ANY other blog I’ve listed here, for the love of PETE please check this one out. This woman is INCREDIBLE! Cupcake pops? Yeah. Those were her idea.

Who’s Your Dachshund?

Cute little blog about little doggies — I get a kick out of the snippets of the lives of the doxies (usually Calvin and Theo).

Craftastrophe

This blog is similar to cake wrecks… except it’s just a bunch of crafts gone wrong.

Okay kids!  Now that you know how to follow blogs without having to spend HOURS a day on the internet… go forth! And now NONE of you have an excuse as to why you don’t follow my blog. ;)

OMG, Adria stole my Blogger background. I’m so embarrassed. It’s like walking into a party wearing the same thing as someone else.

Also… I don’t use a reader. You should probably slap me the next time you see me. *wink*

I use Netvibes, which is essentially the same thing. I also use it to keep track of tweets, check weather widgets, glance at my email, store recipes, keep a to-do list – all kinds of stuff.
