checking up on my goals

I was talking to my friend, Danielle, who is apparently taking a Bucket List class with her mom and that reminded me about my goals that I set in January.  I never wrote them down somewhere or posted them where I could see them everyday, so I don’t know how I’m doing.

I went back and pulled the list from that post.  Here’s the update:

Every day I’d like to…

1)  Do some sort of exercise and STRETCH.

  • doing pretty well on this one..well not as much on the stretching part. I did get a Wii Fit for Valentine’s day so if I can crawl out of bed 10 minutes earlier, then I can do some yoga and get the stretching part down.

2) Be outside or appreciate outdoors/the environment

  • Even in the crappy Iowa winter (although it’s been gorgeous out lately) I’ve been outside almost every day…walking, running  and enjoying/complaining about the weather.

3) Recycle/reuse something

  • I am doing really well with this at home, although I could be better about this at work. I started recycling everything we have bins for at my apartment (mixed paper and plastics mostly…which is virtually ALL my trash)

4) take 10 minutes just to breathe

  • that’s what I’m doing right now.  Well sort of. I try to take a 10 minute sanity break at work. I need to take a 10 minute chillax break and do some meditation like I had been doing for a while in college. I will work on this.

Every week I’d like to…

1) Run 4-5 times, crosstrain twice

  • I’ve been getting 3-4 runs in (injury flaring up again) and doing really well on cross training. I’ve been going to Pilates as well and walking on my lunch hours.

2) Cook a healthy meal for myself (and actually eat the leftovers)

  • I do this 1-3 times per week. I make sure to make enough to have leftovers to freeze…and I actually eat all my leftovers! I’m really proud of that because I’m bad about leftovers.

3) Visit Kasey and do something for him to show I care

  • I haven’t been doing very well with this. I need to do more for him.

4) Take time to pamper (take a bubble bath or do a pedi!)

  • time??? yeah. If I had time to clean my place, I’d do more bubble baths..but my bathtub is kinda gross.

By the end of 2009 I’d like to…

1) Be able to run a 5K in under 25 minutes

  • DONE!

2) Have run another half marathon and marathon (EDIT: and do the half in under 2 hours and the full in 4:30 or under…or do 3 halves and get a PR each time if my injury won’t let me do another marathon).

  • I think I might have to stick to 3 halves (or even 2)…the injury isn’t going to get any better, so I probably won’t get to do another marathon.

3) have finished my personal portfolio/website

  • How about…finish my friends’ portfolio websites first…then we’ll get to that.

4) apply to grad school and start my program

  • see above. need that to apply.

5) have saved up enough to buy a treadmill for 2009-10’s winter

  • have it…but not getting it until next year in case my car craps out.

6) read and finish at least one book

  • DONE and done.  I read “The Things they Carried” by Tim O’Brien and “Downtown Owl” by Chuck Klosterman.  Kasey gives me a new book every few weeks, so that keeps me on my toes.

In 3-5 years I’d like to…

1)  have finished my MFA
2) buy a new car
3) move somewhere new and exciting (Oregon, Colorado, Arizona, Boston…who knows. NOT Alaska.)
4) Still be a runner … maybe do a triathalon.

In 10 years I’d like to…

1) have student loans paid off or mostly paid off
2) be teaching at a University
3) buy a house or some sort of real estate
4) still be a runner, and do that triathalon if I haven’t.

Before I die I’d like to…

1)  get a tattoo
2) run an ultramarathon (only 30 miles though!)
3) get married/start a family
4) get an iPhone (haha. how petty this goal is, but I think I’ve got all the goods covered elsewhere)

  • I got an iPod touch…so close. I think that will have to do for now.

5) finally learn how to play that bass that’s been collecting dust for 4 years.
