Revenge of the Prom!

This is almost long overdue…it’s just now overdue I guess.

I’m splitting this into two posts because something ridiculous happened that was a spinoff of this evening.

Last weekend my friend Kelly and I went with a bunch of peeps from her work (Innova, A Sigler Company) to Revenge of the Prom in Ames.  We bought tickets back in January when we realized that we could get another use out of the awesome 80s dresses we picked up for our Party Like it’s 1985 New Year’s party.

The night went like most of my proms… show up early at my girlies’ place(s) (except usually they came to me), help them with hair and or makeup, gather for a pre-party (or dinner) and make it to prom about 10-20 minutes late.  The prom tickets included professional photography and keg beer from Olde Main Brewing Company.

We got our photos taken as a group and just with our dates.  Our “date” photo was so incredibly awesome that the professional photographers used it as the photo on the frontpage of the prom photo collection (cuz that’s how we roll).  Also, I forgot to mention I’d made some HUGE corsages for us to wear for the event the night before using some hot glue and fake flowers.

Anyway, we got our drinks after having our pix taken.  Unlike real prom, there were waitresses coming around and refilling everybody’s drinks.

It was funny  because most of the people there were from Sigler Companies (at least I assumed). Kelly knew a lot of people and I knew Kelly and Michaela (who is one of our print reps at work)… and partially the people in the dotpod that I follow on twitter.  I chatted with Michaela and her boyfriend for a while and discovered that her boyfriend knew some people from back home (which is funny b/c it’s such a small town).  Then I got drunk enough to go out onto the dance floor..but not after consuming a slew of cream cheese mints (hey, where was the cake???).

After that it was pretty much a blur. I know at one point they played 99 luftballoons and it was like the best song evar.  I got sick of dancing so I noticed this guy with an Iron Maiden t-shirt on so I thought I could strike up a convo with him (hey, I didn’t know anybody there, so everybody was fair game). So I went over and started chatting with him for  a while. Apparently a lot of time passed because my friends were getting worried (as you know, I do have a boyfriend) and his friends tried to hook us up (neither was interested.. hey…we’re talking about metal. it’s cool).

Anyway, I quit talking with that guy after a while and requested some metallica from the band. The one guitarist obliged and started playing a riff from one of their older albums…but the other 3 band members put a stop to that real quick.  Hey, it’s of the era.

The evening ended and what else to better top off prom but than a huge greasy breakfast. Off to Perkins we went.  I got a spinach and tomato omelette and some wheat toast…but grabbed a macadamia nut cookie on the way out.

We made it back to Kelly’s… somehow (thanks to @sweetJames… — yes, I’m @ing him even though I’m not on twitter).  At 6 AM or so I discovered I was still rather intoxicated so I tossed her kitty off my lap and got some water. Somehow I fell asleep and woke up kinda hungover.

Either way… good times had by all. I’m already looking for a dress for next year since I decided that unless I remove some ribs that black dress I got will NEVER fit me again (I had to work for 15 mins to get it to fit me in this post). I’ll likely blog about it if I win one.

Anyway, pictures!

That’s not the right beer-spillage photo. You will note that it was taken on the dance floor, where there were No Drinks Allowed.
